20 years of Down House

Twenty years ago the English Herutage reopened Down House to the public.

But the house hadn’t been used by the Darwin for many decades and to bring it back to what it used to be when Charles and Emma lived there they had to start an intensive programme of repair, conservation and re-presentation.

In this blog they reveal how they re-presented the historic estate after acquiring it in the mid-1990s – and how they are still bringing Darwin’s home to life 20 years on.
